Dave Myers Interview

Posted: Mar 16, 2009

Dave Myers is one of many awesome riders in Surrey, BC. He always goes big and is always rad and does gnar tricks from hopping picnic tables to huge supermans.

Here is his interview:

The Dave Myers Interview.

How long have you been riding for?
9 years

What was your first BMX you had?
GT Dyno Compe.

What got you into BMX?
Sick of paying for gas with a dirt bike, so I bought a GT.

What's a typical Dave Myers' day like?
Get up at 5:00am go to work (latex applicator tech), then go home and chill with the kids and maybe after go hit up the igloo till 11 or 12.

What do you think of the Surrey BMX scene?
The scene is not that big, but who really wants to live in Surrey? I do!

What is your favorite Surrey Skate Park?
Bear creek is my home.

What do you hate about the BMX scene currently and is there anything you would change?
I don't hate and wouldn't change it, really don't care. Do what you want, just don't get gay on me!

Why do you ride a BMX bike?
Because I am hooked.

How did you get the nickname 'Dirty' Dave Myers?
Because the Surrey nick name was taken.

Give us a story about one of your favorite riding memories.
I can't think right now, I always have a blast riding.

What are your views on mountain biking?
I think dirt jumps & trails on a MTB would be fun but at a skate park it is lame! Go ahead and tell that to Boyko.

What gets you pumped to ride hard?
Riding fast and crashing fast gets me stoked.

What do you think about the current trends in BMX?
I would like to see what comes after tight red pants.

What are some tricks that give you the most trouble?
Not good at bar spins. Yeah I suck!

What do you like to do outside of riding?
Hanging with my family, driving my car, fishing, and watching web videos on the nerd box!

Describe a typical breakfast...
One full pack of maple flavored bacon, three potatoes that are smashed into hash browns, three omega eggs, and some whole-wheat toast.

What is your current setup?
Volume Ends Frame
S&M Grand Slam Bars
Odyssey Dirt Fork
We The People Stem
Odyssey Front Wheel
We The People Rear Wheel
Demolition Pedals and Sprocket
Primo Seat
We The People Tires
Demolition brake
Primo cranks with Ti Spindle
Shadow Halflink Chain

What are some of the more serious injuries you've got from riding your bike?
I cut my shin with the pedal and it got infected so quick and bad, that the nurse stuffed my leg with cotton from the knee to the ankle, multiple times.

Have you ever considered giving up riding?
I am hooked on riding and don't want help!

What do you think about all the kids progressing so fast?
Shred on little rippers!

Is there anything you still want to learn on your bike?
Tricks never end if you’re still in it.

What’s your favorite trick to do?
Downside tail whips.

Whip at Bear Creek

If you could ride for any company, who would you ride for and why?
Not sure, who wants?

What would you like to accomplish in the next 5 or so years?
Get super rich! BC 6/49!

If you had to ride one park, or one city for the rest of your life, what park or city would it be?
Millenium skatepark in Calgary, Alberta, because it is the biggest park I have ever rode and it's fun.

Who are some of the riders in Surrey you enjoy riding with?
James V., Rob G., Robbie M., and Tyler P.

What's in your pockets at the moment?
Telus cell phone, keys, lighter, wallet that is so not full of cash.

Can jam at Bear Creek

Who or what are some influences on your life?
My family, music is good, I like rock and fishing. Riders: Surrey Steve, James Van De Kamp, Jason Enns, Dave Osato, Tj Cout, Jamie Meritt, Spicer, Rob Sigati, Jerrad Creally. Probably tons of other pro's I don't know.

Anyone you want to thank?
My dad for hooking me up with my bikes, when I was younger. My wife for canceling that Rogers Plan. Up yours Rogers!

Any last words?
Once again, up yours Rogers Mobility!

too bad this site is focusing so much on bmx...if you want to cash in on the bmx thing then make a sister site. Mountain biking needs it's own space.

I don't think we have changed out approach to BMX at all, more users are simply working with us now, instead of against us before.

We dont want to run BMX stuff that doesn't use a Helmet. So, as you can see, the users are working with our rules. We didn't run BMX stuff for that exact reason before.

Its all the same at the end of the day. Bikes are bikes, 2 wheels for ever!

I disagree with wounded123. This site is fine the way it is, and there is no more bmxing then mtbing. Its pinkbike, not bmxbike or mtbike....no specific style of riding intended. If anything there is not enough bmx stuff, but maybe that is just because there are so many different types of mtbing. Downhill, Freeride, XC, All Mountain...and dirtjumping is sort of sitting on top of the fence, and not sure which side to take.

There is no need to be uptight about everything. Big whoop, he doesn't like MTB's in the skateparks. He never said he hated mtb'ing, just them in the skatepark. Oh no, 1 photo with out a helmet, it's not the end of the world. Plus the trick is rad and gnar. Just like Dave.

i didnt say he hated mtn biking? i just hate going to the skate parks and getting trashed on by the bmxers when our sports are so close... it just sets a bad example coming from a "rad" guy like Dave and all i was saying is that they could have left that out

wooord. but at the local parks around here, people stare in awe when we roll up on out MTBs lol. Everyone wants to take turns riding out bikes in the bowls and $hit lol. So we've kinda been lucky w/ the BMX/MTB bond

I'm just going to point this out. He doesn't care if people are riding the park with their MTB's, it just thinks it's weird. That's all, nothing to big to get worried about...

Sweet article dude. Is this the same dirty dave meyers who used to live in Calgary with all the skull tattoos from Bushido? Hard to see his face in your pics, some sweet riding shots though. Glad to see he's still rippin bmx if it's the same dude, it was always great watching him at millennium.

dotca - If you've got an email addy or anything for him, let me know. I've got a bunch of B&W film pics of him from the skatepark I want to send his way.

why do people even bother to put down other styles of riding. Its senseless. Where I'm from we all have formed an alliance. We all ride different kinds of rigs and we all get along just fine. Its just like how Jeep enthusiasts are splitting into Wrangler guys and Cherokee guys... it's just senseless. If you wheel, then u wheel. Take all that negative energy and oput it towards something positive... like building up your own BMX bike lol
